Stacie Clayton
Biography
Stacie Clayton is the Director of Community Affairs for Wayne State University. In this role she serves as the primary contact for individuals, business, community organizations, and local municipalities that seek involvement with the University. Stacie promotes the urban mission of the University by strengthening, developing and sustaining mutually beneficial partnerships with stakeholders throughout the metropolitan Detroit area. This includes strategically extending Wayne State's resources to the community so that Wayne State continues to have a significant impact on the cultural, economic and social life of southeastern Michigan. Stacie also works directly with the University's leadership, schools and colleges to advance their work internally and externally.
With over 30 years of external affairs experience, Stacie has held a variety of positions with Michigan's government, corporate and non-profit sectors. Prior to joining Wayne State University Stacie was the Director of Administration and Special Projects for former Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones. Previously, she was Vice President of Government and Community Affairs for Detroit Renewable Energy where she led the company's government and community engagement efforts. She also served as the Assistant Director of the Governor's Office of Urban Initiatives, where she managed office operations and advised decision-makers and stakeholders on policy and other matters to improve the safety and economic well-being of Michigan's urban centers. Stacie previously also had positions in the City of Detroit Mayor's Office, City Clerk's Office and Detroit Super Bowl XL Host Committee.
Throughout her career, Stacie has been a passionate and effective advocate of intergroup bridge building and external engagement. Her greatest professional strong point is "connecting the dots" for others to achieve the big picture. She prides herself on being a go-to person to get something done.
Stacie served a four-year term on the Michigan Civil Rights Commission one year as Vice Chair and the last two years as Chair and recently; was appointed to the Detroit Promise Zone Authority; and a 2022 Michigan Chronicle Women of Excellent Honoree.
Stacie resides in Detroit, is a graduate of Renaissance High School, and holds two degrees from Wayne State University where she received a BA in political science and a Master of Business Administration.
