University Communications
The University Communications team produces and supports both internal and external communications for Wayne State. We serve as the primary liaison between the university and the news media, working to elevate Wayne State’s stature and reputation through strategic storytelling, proactive media outreach, and rapid response to media inquiries.
We partner with the broader WSU community to identify, develop, and share news and information that highlight the university’s mission in teaching, research and community service.
To accomplish our mission, the University Communications team:
- Develops and pitches news stories and features for print, web, radio and television
- Records, analyzes and monitors media coverage
- Connects media with faculty experts for interviews
- Arranges and facilitates media briefings
- Distributes a monthly media tip sheet linking faculty experts to current events
- Maintains an active database of faculty experts for media consultation
- Works closely with the Wayne State University Police Department to manage external communications in emergency situations and plays a key role in crisis contingency planning
Working with the University Communications team
The University Communications team is here to help you share your news internally and externally. The today.wayne.edu newsroom serves as the hub for news, announcements and information of interest to the campus community. We seek to share Wayne State’s story, with special emphasis on highlighting work that supports the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan and other university priorities. We want to recognize the successes of Wayne State’s world-class faculty, staff and students and encourage you to share your news.
Tip: If you are promoting an event, please inform our office four to six weeks in advance, when possible. If you seek media coverage prior to the event, include all pertinent details, including the name of the recommended spokesperson.
